How to move fragile items?
Fragile items are hard to move. Crockery sets, plates and glasses, and the gifts from your aunties; definitely, these things can ruin your peace of mind. If you do not wish to see your valuable and fragile items in broken pieces after moving to your new place, you must learn the tips to move them with proper packing.
Take time
Have patience and take enough time. You should not make a rush when dealing with fragile items. Each piece needs your attention and proper packing. So, get suitable packing materials and start packing in advance.
Use cardboard dividers
If you have glasses and stemware to move, you can use cardboard dividers to pack them safely in moving boxes. Or, there are special boxes you can buy that come with cardboard dividers for stemware. Such dividers prevent the objects from colliding with each other when moving.
Secure the bottom of the box
Give extra strength to the bottom of the box with strips and tapes to ensure the objects will not fall by breaking the box. And also, don’t forget to put soft materials as a layer on the bottom. It will reduce the pressure to the bottom and make padding for the breakables.
Heavier items at the bottom
Organize the objects well and store heavier items at the bottom of the box. If it is not safe to put another thing into the box, keep it empty or fill the space with soft items like pillows and blankets. We highly recommend using the small size boxes for heavier items.
Labeling
Labeling is a communication method. Proper labeling will give instructions and ideas about the items you move, even if you are not there. Therefore, clearly labeling the boxes with fragile items is critical. Such labeled boxes can be kept in a separate and safe place, and the movers can be more careful with those boxes. Include instructions, standard icons, and notices that show how they should be moved and kept.
Use the right packaging materials
Cheap boxes won’t work for fragile items. Faulty packing materials with holes or damages can do significant harm instead of making your moving easy. So, always purchase strong and quality boxes and other recommended packing materials like bubble wraps, strips, packing papers, etc.
Wrap up each item individually
Each item needs to be wrapped individually according to the size, shape, and material. Items like pictures, frames, mirrors need to be packed separately with custom packing techniques. Secure their corners with cardboards and use bubble wraps, crumpled papers to cover the body. Fragile figurines can be safely moved by covering them with bubble wrap and then securing them with tapes. If it is not enough, use cardboard to cover it again before placing it in the box. Use the same size box to put them, and use suitable fillings for the empty spaces.
