How to prepare for a perfect moving?

...

What comes to your mind first when you hear the word ‘Moving’? A messy house with lots of cardboard boxes, everyone running here and there collecting their stuff, a heap of garbage which you don’t know what to do with and many more. And, Oops! Someone has dropped your mom’s favorite crockery set.

Well, that’s enough. Home removal is not such a scary thing. All you have to do is make a perfect plan and prepare in advance. Here in this article, we talk about how you should prepare for hassle-free and perfect removal.

Preparing a moving checklist

A proper moving checklist with timelines and covering the whole removal process is the best first action to take. While handling the removal, you cannot ignore other daily tasks as well. So, following clear instructions is essential for removal as it simplifies your big work by dividing it into small tasks. It ensures that you won’t miss anything during your removal and stops you from being stressed.

Is everything legally fine and clear with your house/office removal?

Before you think of other steps, first finish all legal work regarding your removal and finalize everything. Don’t wait till the last moment to get the necessary documents. Proper and neat documentation makes the rest of your work fast and easy to handle.

Moreover, here are some things you must remember.

  • Change your address and inform the relevant parties.
  • If you are at the end of a tenancy contract, make sure you don’t owe your landlord anything.
  • Make all your bill payments done, and don’t forget about your neighbors too. If you have to pay anyone or return what you have borrowed before, don’t let them wait.

Packing

  • Before starting packing, decide what to do with each item. Declutter your stuff and decide what to keep, sell, donate, and what should be sent to recycling centers.
  • Pack from the room by room and start it from the least used room. If you want, you can pack the items you frequently use in a separate bag.
  • Prepare a survival bag for the first night at your new place, just like you are going on a trip. Put your PJs, toothbrush, mobile chargers, etc. No need to tell, right? You know what you want to survive.
  • Choose the right size boxes, not too large or small. Do not overload them more than you can safely move. You can fill the empty spaces with light-weighted items like blankets and pillows.
  • Labeling is a must. Write what’s in the box, to whom it belongs, or anything you need to remember about it. Also, highlight the packages that contain fragile items for anyone to see clearly.
  • Take pictures before and while disassembling furniture and unplugging electricals. Otherwise, when reassembling, you will not remember what to put and where to.
  • Pack fragile and breakable items separately and carefully. Use towels, newspapers, blankets to pack them safe inside the boxes.

Food

Remember you have to pack your kitchen as well. Empty and defrost your refrigerator before your moving day and keep your kitchen appliances clean and dry. You can order or prepare a simple but good meal for your removal day. House/office moving can be tiresome work. Therefore it’s good to have some instant, dry food and a flask of coffee in a place you can find easily.

Also, you have to find a restaurant near your new location and order some food for the first night at your new place.

There is one more thing you must not forget! After everything is done, before you hand over the house/office keys to someone else, hire a good cleaning company for a deep clean, end-of-tenancy cleaning at your old place. It’s not good to leave the place where you lived so far in bad condition.

Now tell us again, what comes to your mind first when you hear the word ‘Moving’? It isn’t that bad, right?
